About the Session:
When your child is newly diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes it can be an emotional and logistical challenge. This session will guide parents and caregivers through what to expect, how to communicate effectively, and how to ensure your child receives safe, confident, and compassionate diabetes management.
Topics include:
✅ Understanding caregiver roles and responsibilities
✅ Daily routines: blood glucose monitoring, insulin administration, and carb counting
✅ Emergency procedures and when to call for help
✅ Building communication between families, caregivers, and the medical team
✅ Reducing caregiver stress and promoting confidence

Dr. Katharine Garvey is a board-certified pediatric endocrinologist at Boston Children’s Hospital, specializing in diabetes management and family education. Clinical Chief and Director of the Diabetes Program, Dr. Garvey is passionate about empowering families and caregivers to create safe, supportive environments for children living with Type 1 Diabetes.
