Dear Camp Family,
We are excited to share that we will be hosting virtual camp this summer! Please email email@example.com for a registration form!
A group of Barton Center alumni and would-be summer staff have volunteered to lead virtual camp to bring some fun to your home this summer. We will be using the video platform Zoom to host activities such as arts and crafts and exercise classes, provide diabetes education and support, and keep camp traditions alive with talent shows, campfires and more.
Dates: Session 1: June 14 to June 26; Session 2: June 28 to July 10. While virtual camp will not be full-time, our volunteers will be hosting 1-3 hours of activities throughout the day from which campers can choose to participate. Spots are limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Cost: We are happy to share that as a result of the strength of the camp community of staff and alumni, we are able to offer virtual camp free of charge. We greatly appreciate all donations, which will be put towards our COVID-19 recovery. Donations can be made via check to The Barton Center Barton Center for Diabetes Education, Inc., P.O. Box 356, North Oxford, MA, 01537 or online at our First Giving page. https://www.firstgiving.com/event/bartoncenter/supportBarton
Schedule: Please see our facebook post for the current Session 1 virtual camp schedule. Campers may choose to participate in as many or as few activities as they would like. We are running multiple sessions per day, split for “younger” and “older” campers to provide the best experience possible. Our recommendation is for campers 13 and under to join the “younger” activities, and 14 and over to join the “older” activities, but we invite you to pick which age group and activities make the most sense for your camper. We will continue to add activities as our volunteer base grows and will send a final schedule prior to June 14th. Note times are in Eastern Standard Time.
Materials: Each registered camper will be mailed a “Camp Starter Pack” donated by our volunteers. The starter packs will contain many materials needed for campers to participate in activities, such as arts and craft supplies, exercise bands, pen pal materials, and more. Campers must register by June 3rd to receive a pack in time for Session 1. The list of ingredients for cooking activities will be emailed prior to the start of the session, and gluten/allergen-free recipe options will be provided. Recipes will consist of common food items and will limit the use of stoves/ovens/knives for camper safety.
Facilitation: We will be using Zoom to host virtual camp activities. Registered campers will be sent the detailed information. Information about getting set up can be found here: https://zoom.us
Cabins: Campers will be placed in virtual cabins based on their age. Cabins will be coed, and counselors will be assigned to fit each cabin’s needs. Campers will have time to spend together to bond with their cabinmates, in addition to larger camp activities.
Camp Store: Make sure to check out the NEW online camp store to grab any gear you may want before camp gets started! All proceeds will go to The Barton Center to support next summer’s program. Visit the store here: https://teespring.com/stores/the-barton-center-camp-store
Application: Spots are limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so please be sure to return the form to BartonCenterVirtualCamp@gmail.com as soon as possible, but no later than June 3rd for Session 1 and June 20th for Session 2.
A special note: All of this would not be possible without the work of our amazing volunteers, who are excited to help campers have much fun as possible this summer. We are all incredibly saddened by our inability to operate camp this summer as planned, and the Barton family hopes virtual camp can provide joy during these challenging times. We appreciate your support and flexibility as we create this new experience and look forward to a fun summer!
Peace, Love and Insulin,
The Barton Center’s Virtual Camp Team
