Clara Barton Camp
Leaders-In-Training Program
Group A: June 26th - July 22ndGroup B: July 24th - August 19thGirls, Aged 16, or have completed 10th grade by June 26th
The Leaders-In-Training (LIT) Program is aimed at young women who demonstrate a belief in the mission of diabetes camping, a desire to work with children, and who are interested in further developing their leadership skills. The LIT Program encompasses more than just training young women to become camp counselors. The LITs will be given the opportunity to provide leadership in all aspects of their lives. They will be provided with the knowledge to return to their home communities where they will use their leadership skills in school, on recreation teams, amongst their family and friends, and much more! And of course, they will be trained to become outstanding future CBC counselors.
The Clara Barton Camp LITs will have the opportunity to participate in some (but not all) learning and team building activities with the LITs from Camp Joslin. The LITs stay at CBC during the "exchange weekend" between the two-week camp sessions. LITs will also experience an overnight, off-site camping trip during their 4-week LIT session.
Candidates for the program are young women with diabetes, who are sixteen years of age or older at the start of the 2010 summer season or have completed the 10th grade. Candidates must have an interest in working with children, like the outdoors, and be positive role models with regards to their diabetes and life in general. There are up to 12 participants in each of two sessions. LITs are selected based on qualifications and interest in becoming future camp staff and leaders in their community.

Junior Counselors (JC's) are individuals who demonstrate a love for working with young people, diabetes camping, and play. They are salaried summer staff members-in-training, working alongside Counselors, living in cabins, and leading/assisting camp activities, under the direction of the JC Leader.
